UNIVERSITY OF ZURICH<\/h2>\n

The\u00a0University of Zurich<\/b>\u00a0(UZH<\/b>,\u00a0German:\u00a0Universit\u00e4t Z\u00fcrich<\/span>), located in the city of\u00a0Z\u00fcrich, is the largest\u00a0university\u00a0in Switzerland,\u00a0with over 26,000 students.\u00a0It was founded in 1833\u00a0from the existing\u00a0colleges\u00a0of\u00a0theology,\u00a0law,\u00a0medicine\u00a0and a new\u00a0faculty\u00a0of\u00a0philosophy.<\/p>\n

Currently, the university has seven faculties:\u00a0Philosophy,\u00a0Human Medicine,\u00a0Economic Sciences,\u00a0Law,\u00a0Mathematics\u00a0and\u00a0Natural Sciences,\u00a0Theology\u00a0and\u00a0Veterinary Medicine. The university offers the widest range of subjects and courses of any Swiss higher education institution.<\/p>\n

Campus<\/span><\/h3>\n

The university is scattered all over the city of Zurich. Members of the university can use several libraries, including the\u00a0ETH-library, and the Zurich Central Library, with over 5 million volumes.<\/sup>\u00a0In 1962, the faculty of science proposed to establish the\u00a0Irchelpark\u00a0campus on the\u00a0Strickhofareal. The first stage the construction of the university buildings was begun in 1973, and the campus was inaugurated in 1979. The construction of the second stage lasted from 1978 to 1983. The campus also houses the anthropological museum\u00a0Anthropologisches Museum, and the cantonal\u00a0Staatsarchiv Z\u00fcrich.<\/p>\n

Language policy<\/span><\/h3>\n

Bachelor courses are taught in\u00a0Swiss Standard German\u00a0(“Hochdeutsch”), but use of English is increasing in many faculties. The only bachelors program taught entirely in English is the “English Language and Literature” program. All Master courses at the Faculty of Science are held in English. In some highly competitive and international programs, such as the Master of Science in Quantitative Finance, all lectures are held in English.<\/p>\n

Student life<\/span><\/h3>\n

The university’s Academic Sports Association (ASVZ) offers a wide range of sports facilities to students of the university.<\/p>\n
